Purity – Modelling Purity

This week’s and last weeks sermons were about purity.  We ended by talking about the necessity of modelling
We read in Titus 2, “Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good, so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children… Likewise urge the young men to be sensible; in all things show yourself to be an example of good deeds, with purity in doctrine, dignified.”  Did you notice how Paul uses the phrase “so that” when talking about the older women teaching the younger women?  Paul cared that the women understood that they needed to be something in order to teach something.  They needed to be people that showed what it meant to be Christian women.  Paul cared the same for Titus.  He needed to be a person who showed the men what a Christian man looked like.

Do you remember that old school activity “Show and Tell”?  The Christian life is like that.  We cannot just ‘tell’ people about living a pure life.  We must live it to ‘show’ them what it looks like.  The goal is for us to so look like Jesus, that His life truly draws others.  Purity is not just a choice we make about how we live our lives.  Purity is the path of life.  Do we show that to others?

Something to think about,
Pastor John

One Response to Purity – Modelling Purity

  1. James says:

Is my purity really so important? I tell my kids what they are to do. Do I really need to live by the same standard?
